The purpose of our Children’s Ministry
The Children's Ministry at St. James United Methodist Church follows the mission statement of our church as a whole, which is threefold:
1. Knowing God
2. Connecting with others
3. Serving His people
Specifically, our goal in the Children's Ministry is to partner with our families to lead our children to salvation and spiritual growth (by teaching God’s Word), to provide a sense of community for our children to which they know they belong, and to provide opportunities for our children and families to serve others.
St. James UMC offers excellent Bible study opportunities for our children in pre-k through 5th grade during our Sunday school hour, which is from 9:40-10:40 a.m. All of our Sunday school classes are taught by responsible, nurturing adults from our church family who have answered God’s call to teach and who are committed to teaching for a twelve month period. All teachers have undergone background checks and have received specific Sunday school teacher training. St. James follows the Safe Sanctuaries Policy, and we have a detailed Child Protection Policy in order to protect both our children and our volunteers. Sunday School Curriculum
Our Sunday school classes are currently using The Gospel Project® for Kids curriculum. This fantastic, Christ-centered material immerses our kids in the gospel through every story, theological concept, and call to mission from Genesis to Revelation. Through The Gospel Project® for Kids, the children at St. James are learning that the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story—God’s story of redemption! This curriculum uses engaging Bible story videos, music, and lesson plans to emphasize how all of Scripture points to the gospel of Jesus. For further details about this curriculum, including a detailed three year study plan, please click HERE.

Our Wednesday night activities are a fun way for our kids to learn more about God mid-way through the week while our adults participate in their own studies. Our Pre-K-5th graders are involved in Praise Kids (children's choir) as well as on-going Bible-based lessons with related crafts and games. Wednesday night activities are traditionally during the months of August through April as we break during the summer months of May, June, and July.
We celebrate Easter time with a special celebration for children (complete with a petting zoo and an egg hunt!), and we choose from a variety of different meaningful Christmas activities each year as a way of celebrating the birth of Jesus. During the summer we have a Vacation Bible School time as well. Check the church newsletter or calendar page for more details as these fun events approach!
Children's Ministry Team
The Children’s Ministry Team is led by a group of gifted, committed parents and other adults from our church family who are interested in growing our children's faith in the Lord. The purpose of our Children's Ministry Team is to support the Children’s Minister and Nursery Minister by helping plan special events and providing input for our Sunday and Wednesday classes. We welcome anyone interested in serving in this ministry to join us!
