Our Daily Bread is an Athens soup kitchen founded and housed at Oconee Street Methodist Church and supported by over 20 churches and organizations in the Athens Area.
Volunteers from St. James are committed to provide lunch for Athens' hungry on the second Friday of each month, serving 100 or more.
Groups are responsible for shopping and paying for food, preparing food for around 100 people and serving the food at Our Daily Bread from 11:45 -1:00 on their chosen date. Sign up on the Missions Board at the church or contact Laurie Varner at 549-1232 or ljv966@aol.com .
The kitchen is housed at Oconee Street United Methodist Church at 717 Oconee Street (353-6647).
St. James Contributes $3,000 to the Renovation of the Our Daily Bread Kitchen
Last year, members of St James fasted and prayed for the ministry at Our Daily Bread. Many contributed the money they would have spent on lunch toward a much needed renovation of the Our Daily Bread kitchen. We collected money over two Sundays from the day of fasting, ultimately sending in approximately $3000 for the renovation.
