Music Ministry

Music Ministry is part of the life at St. James. Weekly Worship, Prayer Services, Younger Praise Kids, Older Praise Kids, Soloists, Ensembles, Alleluia Bells, Praise Team, Sunday School, Seasonal Presentations -- these opportunities and more allow the St. James family to musically express their love for Jesus Christ.

Our Worship Choir provides music for the 8:30 worship service, and frequently combines with other groups to sing at other services.  We rehearse on Sunday at 5:00 PM in Room 213.  Contact Bill Emerson (bemerson@sjumc.org) for information. We always welcome more singers!

Our Praise Team provides contemporary music for 9:40 and 11:00 worship and other events. The ensemble includes Vocals, Guitar, Keyboard, and Percussion.  We rehearse on Monday at 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary.  Please contact Bryan Shaw (bshaw@sjumc.org) for more information

.Three exciting children’s music groups meet on Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.  Younger Praise Kids (Pre-K and Kindergarten) meet in Room 120 and are led by Anitra Hale, Andy & Denise Plemmons, and Denise Handley.  Bill & Ella Emerson and LaMurl Morris lead Middle Praise Kids (1st and 2nd grade) and the Older Praise Kids (3rd – 5th grades).  These two groups meet in Room 213—one group from 6:30 to 7:00 and the other from 7:00 to 7:30. Contact Bill Emerson (bemerson@sjumc.org) for more details.

The Alleluia Bells is our handbell choir.  People of all ages play this beautiful 3-octave set of bells.  LaMurl Morris leads this group in Wednesday rehearsals at 5:00 PM (Room 213).  Contact lmorris@sjumc.org for more information.

Our drama team is called The Alpha Actors.  These actors contribute dramas and skits to worship and special occasions.  Their rehearsals are scheduled to be convenient to the members.  If you’re interested in this exciting ministry, contact Gretchen Bowen at gretbowen@hotmail.com.

You are welcome to join or help with any of these groups.  Contact Minister of Music, Bill Emerson, at 548-1680 or bemerson@sjumc.org.
