Overview of Prayer Ministry Activities and Opportunities:

  1. Ministry to Church and Community
    1. Time of Healing Prayer (TOHP) Services
St. James offers 3 TOHP services for the community that are held at St. James, and offers TOHP services at other locations for their residents. Please click here for more information.
    2. In-Depth Prayer Ministry
St. James offers private prayer sessions with trained Prayer Ministers to meet every need: physical, emotional, and spiritual. These sessions are offered to the Athens area community in a safe nurturing environment with complete confidentiality. Please click here for more information.
  2. Healing Prayer Classes
    1. Free To Be Like Jesus class, taught by Rev. Tommy Hays (Messiah Ministries)
This 14-week class is designed for every Christian interested in spiritual growth through prayer. Participants will experience their own healing and freedom as well as learning how to pray for others. The class is offered in the fall and serves as the first level for healing prayer training at St. James. The public is invited. Please click here for more information.
    2. Healing and Deliverance class, taught by Betsy and Chester Kylstra (Restoring the Foundations (RTF) Ministry)
This 15-week class offers training in the RTF integrated approach to healing prayer that is used by several international ministries. It will be offered each spring. Whole group discussions deepen understanding and small group prayer sessions offer opportunities for healing breakthroughs in a safe confidential environment. This course is available to those completing the Free to be Like Jesus class or other approved prayer training. Please click here for more information.
    3. Restoring the Foundations Advanced Training for Issue-Focused Ministry (IFM) (See “Two Ministry Formats”)
The RTF Activation Seminar for IFM and additional RTF advanced training is offered at St. James to those meeting qualifications and prerequisites. All RTF training is organized and offered under the authority and supervision of RTF Healing House Network trainers who serve as teachers and mentors to the St. James Prayer Ministry. Please click here for more information.
  3. Commissioning Prayer Ministers at St. James UMC
    1. Answering the Call to Prayer Ministry
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Luke 10:2). As St. James increases our healing prayer ministry, we are praying that God will raise up additional committed Prayer Ministers. Successful completion of the Free to be Like Jesus class (or other prayer ministry training), and the Healing and Delivery class from Restoring the Foundations International Ministry is necessary to be commissioned as a St. James Prayer Minister. Click here for more information about becoming a St. James Commissioned Prayer Minister, or contact Jane Kilgo at janekilgo@gmail.com
