Prayer Ministry

Overview of Prayer Ministry Activities and Opportunities:

  1. Ministry to Church and Community
    1. Healing Prayer Services
The St. James Prayer Ministry cordially invites the public to the Night of Healing Prayer (NOHP) services offered at St. James. The 2018 services will be held in the sanctuary from 7:00-8:30 PM on Feb. 15th , May 17th , Aug. 16th , and Nov. 15th . In addition to the NOHP services at St. James, we also offer Time of Healing Prayer (TOHP) services at other locations that are tailored to the needs of individuals at those settings. Please click here for more information.
    2. Private In-Depth Healing Prayer Sessions
St. James offers private prayer sessions with two Prayer Ministers to address every need: physical, emotional, and spiritual. These sessions are offered to the Athens area community in a safe nurturing
environment with complete confidentiality. All of our prayer ministers are trained and commissioned, and some are certified in Issue-Focused Ministry through Restoring the Foundations. Please click here for more information.
  2. Classes offered by the Prayer Ministry in 2018
    1. Free To Be Like Jesus
This 14-week class is designed for every Christian interested in spiritual growth through prayer. The goals are personal transformation as well as an understanding of the dynamics of Christian healing prayer as a way of living a sanctified life full of freedom and victory.  Participants will experience their own healing as well as learning how to pray for others. The class is offered from Jan. 24th through May 2nd and the community is cordially invited. Although designed for every believer in Jesus Christ, this class also serves as the first level for healing prayer training at St. James. The registration deadline is Jan. 17th. Please click here for more information.
    2. Issue-Focused Ministry Training from Restoring the Foundations
Restoring the Foundations (RTF) is an integrated approach to healing and freedom with a focus on these 4 interrelated areas: 1) Generational pressures and problems passed down through the family, 2) Misconceptions/lies on which we often base decisions and attitudes, 3) Soul/Spirit hurts that often wound us deeply, and 4) Demonic strongholds that can oppress us. Understanding the spiritual dynamics in each of these 4 areas is important for every believer and is the basis of doing in-depth prayer ministry that is focused on one issue at a time in a systemaic and comprehensive manner. The initial class for RTF training will be offered in the Fall of 2018 and is available for anyone interested in learning Issue-Focused Ministry from RTF. Please click here for more information.
    3. Prophetic Art Workshop with Instructor June Littlepage
Back by popular demand, the one day Prophetic Art Workshop will be held on Sat. April 14 th , 2018 from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Lunch is included and the public is cordially invited. Please register by April 1st. Please click here for more information.
  3. Commissioning Prayer Ministers at St. James UMC
    1. Answering the Call to Prayer Ministry
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; Pray, therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Luke 10:2). As St. James increases our healing prayer ministry, we are praying that God will raise up additional committed Prayer Ministers. Successful completion of the following classes is required to become a commissioned prayer minister at St. James: 1) The Free to be Like Jesus class (or other approved prayer ministry training), and 2) either the Healing and Deliverance class or the Hope, Healing, and Freedom class, both from Restoring the Foundations.
