The purpose of this ministry is to bring prayer before the congregation and undergird St. James in all its many activities and ministries. We are a church that prays. To request prayer contact the church office (548-1680). Your need will be discreetly and lovingly shared with those who will pray for you.

PRAYER MINISTRY ACTIVITIES

School of Healing Prayer - An intensive study of the ministry of prayer for others to which the church is called. Participants learn how to pray more effectively for and with those who are in need of physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual healing. This is a video series with an accompanying book. Three levels are offered at various times of the year with each class lasting 11 to 13 weeks.

School of Healing Prayer , Level 1:A 14 week study. Topics in this introductory study include physical healing, inner healing, innerhealing and forgiveness, salvation, baptism of the Holy Spirit, introduction toprayer ministry and several other areas of prayer ministry. The study utilizes tapes from Christian Healing Ministries and study books. This is the first of three courses offered for our Prayer Ministers and it is a great study even if you just want to learn how to pray for others more effectively. School of Healing Prayer, Level 2: A 13 week study that builds on the foundations established in Level I which is a prerequisite. It leads participants in a progressive and more in-depth understanding of healing ministry and more specific issues that arise. It focuses on the healing of relationships through more defined areas such as healing of marriage, healing wounds of divorce, and healing of abortion and miscarriage, among others. Please contact Class length is usually 1-1/2 to 2 hours depending on who can stay for small group prayer. School of Healing Prayer , Level 3: An 11 week study that addresses issues requiring advanced training for prayer ministry including: abuse, addictions, healing of emotions, and in-depth deliverance. Also covered are: Restoration and integration of the masculine and femine, the role of anger in relationships and understanding the grieving process. Levels 1 and 2 are required before taking this course. It is a great course and one that is highly recommended for Prayer Ministers. Boundaries – An 8 week interactive study with videos and handouts based on the book Boundaries – When to Say Yes, When to Say No, to Take Control of Your Life, by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. These sessions present the importance of developing healthy boundaries in order to maintain healthy relationships, and it is for those already in healthy situations who would like to have a better sense of “yes” and “no”, as well as for those who are in great need of setting healthy boundaries. Next class will start January 31, 2007 at 6:15pm in Room 107 led by Jane Kilgo.

Training to become a Prayer Minister
(Level 1,2 & 3 of School of Healing Prayer*). Basic requirements are for Level 1 minimum and a short internship or for Level 1 and 2.  Prayer Ministers should also be committed Christians and approved by the Prayer Team Steering Committee and the pastor.

*You don't have to become a Prayer Minister in order to take these courses.
