The Sparrow's Nest Mission Church is a 501(C)(3) donor supported mission church reaching out to inner city Athens. This includes low-income families, homeless, addicts and prostitutes, and most certainly, youth (our country's future) at risk etc. The Sparrow's Nest creatively meets the needs of people in a variety of ways.
VISION: To transform the climate of the inner-city Athens community.
MISSION STATEMENT: The Sparrow's Nest is a non-profit, Christ-centered ministry that seeks to change lives through the power of God and nurturing relationships. By creatively meeting the needs of the at-risk population, we build trust, which is the doorway to hope and transformation.
OBJECTIVES:
1: To continue and expand existing ministries.
Inner-City Youth Ministry : Sharing the Gospel of hope several times a week to the inner-city youth. God calls them “fearfully and wonderfully made in His image.” Out of 100 youth we associate with, only one has both mother and father living at home. 47% of our city's teens will drop out of high school; 80% of the youth God has us overseeing are in this category.
Food for Friends: Helping families in crisis by giving groceries to 100-170 families each week.
Tuesday Afternoon Chapel: Faith-filled service for addicts/alcoholics, prostitutes, homeless, and believers alike.
Kitchen Cabinet: Providing daily necessities for those in emergency need.
Clothes Closet: Helping more than 250 persons each month by giving clothing to fire victims, single moms, reforming addicts/ inmates, homeless and others. We go through 2000 lbs of clothing every month.
Elijah's Purse: Assisting families and individuals with emergency financial needs such as utility bills, rent, and deposits, as well as helping to fill prescriptions for the sick.
The Christmas Toy Giveaway: A unique Christmas event where parents receive free toys to give as gifts to their children. Last year 575 parents received toys for 1,800 children. Moreover, approximately 100 of these parents came to the altar for prayer.
Drug and Alcohol counseling: Bringing hope where there is seemingly no hope through the Gospel of deliverance, the life transforming Word of God.
Sunday Morning Worship : Inner-city youth, their parents and all others that God allows us to minister to through the week coming together for worship, discipleship, fellowship and prayer.
2: To establish after-school programs for at-risk youth, offering tutoring, mentoring, Internet Café, homework help and more.
3: To begin a “Welfare to Workplace” program designed to move the inner-city unemployed into the workforce. This will include teaching skills for employment, work ethics, job counseling and placement, as well as follow up sessions which will be instrumental in fostering a career mindset.
4: To increase community awareness of, and participation in, The Sparrow's Nest , giving caring people a place to use their God-given time, talents, and treasures.
