The men who have sex with men label is widely used in puiblc health circles (have you given blood lately, they ask the same thing). Many people feel that gay or homosexual implies identification with a community, which they choose not to do. It may not even be accurate in the case of bisexuals. There are a number of men in long term relationships with women who occasionally have a brief encounter. They would not regard themselves as gay and therefore not appreciate their level of risk. Equally, someone who regards themselves as gay but does not have intercourse is not at risk. The whole point of this is to try and identify HIV early and this label is the best anyone has come up with to test those at risk. 0 likes
