The mission of The Light is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
The vision of The Light is to reach the lost with the Good News and fulfill the Great Commission of making disciples of Jesus Christ while ministering, through relationships, to the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the community.
The Light is a ministry of St. James UMC and Timothy Baptist is a sister church who comes alongside us in the ministry to this urban community. Our main area of outreach is composed of a four street area from Alps Rd. to Milledge Ave., and Baxter St. to Broad St. It is our desire to be vessels of God's Light and Life. Below are listed some ways you can be involved and an explanation of some of the happenings in the community. For more information about The Light, please call (706) 208-8066, email thelight@sjumc.org , or Jeff Larkins, (706) 543-9871, larkins@bellsouth.net
The office of The Light is located on 174 Henderson Ext., off of Rocksprings St. near Clarke Central High School. All of our events occur at this location unless otherwise noted.

Opportunities for Ministry
For additional opportunities to get involved with this ministry, check out The Light calendar.
Food Ministry
- Volunteers are needed on Mondays between 9:00 AM & 4:00 PM
This is a great time to meet people in the neighborhood. In the midst of all the work we manage to have a lot of fun and get blessed as we give of ourselves to others in Jesus name.
- The food bank rarely delivers can goods to us so, if you would like to buy or donate these items, please bring them by The Light.
- Snacks for Mondays (please deliver by 12 Noon)
The truck for the Food Distribution usually arrives at about 1:30. This is when we share with each other some various snacks to enjoy fellowship and pass the time as the bags are being sorted and loaded with food. People really enjoy
this time.
Additional needs: Powdered Country Time Lemonade, coffee, powdered creamer, sugar, 9 oz. cups, and spoons.
Ministers of Help
- Ministers of Help: Many times we have members from the community who have various needs. We need people who will walk with these individuals through this time by using resources to get them the help they need and by loving them in the process with the love of Jesus. This is an incredible opportunity to live out your faith through your actions. Loving God through loving others in a practical way.
